Thank you very much for that very clear and thorough explanation.
I've decided that, for the time being, I'll just stick with 3.4-STABLE,
until such time as I see that my card is supported under 4.x or later.

I wish I could help with the development of the pcm driver, but
unfortunately, it's been quite a while since I undertook any sort of
serious programming project, and my skills are quite rusty, not to mention
that device driver programming was never something I ever delved into, and
from looking at the sources, is not something I really feel capable at all
of dealing with.  :-)

I'll shut up now.
