This is a pretty glaring code gen bug. It affects (at least) HEAD
as of 12/1. The fix is referenced in:

   http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=34130

At a glance, it looks specific to gcc 4.0+, so STABLE is
presumably unaffected.
