Hi Matt, > Because i386-unknown-freebsd5.1 doesn't generate ppc code? :) > > We at first need a cross-compiler to cross-compile :) I might not have been clear enough earlier: the FreeBSD buildworld process builds the cross-compiler itself as the first step of the build, setting up the appropriate 'clean' environment so it pulls in correct libs/headers/etc. Rolling your own can kind-of work for just the kernel (I did that for a while), but you're much better off using the sanctioned way. It's a lot less drama. Is that what you wanted to do, buildworld ? Or something more exotic that does require a cross-compiler ? later, Peter.
