Running on any of the point releases is fine (i.e., 11.4, 12.2, etc). The contents of the files is very unlikely to be relevant to the crash. If you can make an image of the disk, I have a program that walks over a disk image and zeros out every data block that is claimed by a regular file or a snapshot. The resulting image has only metadata remaining. The only customer data that will be disclosed is the names of their files, the structure of their directory trees, and the sizes and ownership of their files and directories. The resulting image has the additional benefit of being very compressible.
