Hmmm, if you can point me at a "Heads Up!" announcement which went to either -current, -stable, -hackers, -announce or -arch a week ago, I'll withdraw my comment about procedural errors being made. Otherwise, I think that anything actually moving in the tree has always merited a "heads up!" (and I do mean with that literally in the subject line or in caps somewhere in the message) with ample warning before actually doing the deed.
