Another way is through atacontrol:
# atacontrol list
ATA channel 0:
Master: ad0 <WDC WD2000JB-98GVA0/08.02D08> ATA/ATAPI revision 6
Slave: no device present
ATA channel 1:
Master: no device present
Slave: no device present
ATA channel 2:
Master: ad4 <WDC WD2500JS-55NCB1/10.02E01> Serial ATA II
Slave: no device present
ATA channel 3:
Master: no device present
Slave: no device present
Then you can use fdisk/bsdlabel/newfs on ad2 as usual :)
