i have a CMI8738 sound chipset onboard a ASUS A7V266 Motherboard, and it detects fine under freebsd, and mpg123 and xmms have no problems and work perfectly, but i cant hear anything! well, thats not true, when i: cat sound.wav /dev/dsp i get alot of screeching and rubbish. the card works fine in windows, and i use it on the 2 channel mode (it supports upto 6 channels) i read somewhere that when its playing a 44 khz or 48 khz sound, pcm chooses to play it through the spdif (digital) outputs, which i cant use.. is this true? is there anyway i can force it to use the standard headphone jackoutputs? does anyone think the problem could be something else?
