hi all, I'm having no luck in getting a cheap HP printer - DeskJet 3940 - to work with FreeBSD 8. It shows up as connected to ulpt0, but won't respond to lp / lpr even with appropriate printcap settings. I'm guessing that the fact that I can't # cat file > /dev/ulpt0 has something to do with it, perhaps the printer requires a filter to print anything. At a pinch, I'll go down the HPLIP route - CUPS on its own didn't work, even with a ulpt-less kernel - but I only want to print plain text files! thanks for any ideas you may have, Steve -------- <mailto:Steve.Brownjohn@Hackney.gov.uk> Hackney Council may exercise its right to intercept any communication, the only exception to this would be confidential survey data, with any employee or agent of the Council using its telephony or data networks.
