Sorry, I was too quick. I tried first with _patched_ sources (using my patch).
Now I managed to reproduce the problem with unpatched sources,
it's still here. And yes, your patch solves it, with corresponding
entry in /boot/device.hints: hint.fd.0.flags="0x10"

Please note that fdc(4) man page still references the flag as 0x40,
that should be corrected too. Thank you very much for patience.
