I do the following from my FreeBSD 2.2.6 box: ===================================================================== /root# ping www.voa.gov PING ibb1.IBB.GOV (152.75.128.1): 56 data bytes 36 bytes from gate.gb.com.cn (203.93.18.253): Redirect Network(New addr: 203.93.18.254) Vr HL TOS Len ID Flg off TTL Pro cks Src Dst 4 5 00 0054 0283 0 0000 fd 01 c503 203.93.18.120 152.75.128.1 36 bytes from gate.gb.com.cn (203.93.18.253): Redirect Network(New addr: 203.93.18.254) Vr HL TOS Len ID Flg off TTL Pro cks Src Dst 4 5 00 0054 0285 0 0000 fd 01 c501 203.93.18.120 152.75.128.1 36 bytes from gate.gb.com.cn (203.93.18.253): Redirect Network(New addr: 203.93.18.254) Vr HL TOS Len ID Flg off TTL Pro cks Src Dst 4 5 00 0054 0287 0 0000 fd 01 c4ff 203.93.18.120 152.75.128.1 36 bytes from gate.gb.com.cn (203.93.18.253): Redirect Network(New addr: 203.93.18.254) Vr HL TOS Len ID Flg off TTL Pro cks Src Dst 4 5 00 0054 0289 0 0000 fd 01 c4fd 203.93.18.120 152.75.128.1 36 bytes from gate.gb.com.cn (203.93.18.253): Redirect Network(New addr: 203.93.18.254) Vr HL TOS Len ID Flg off TTL Pro cks Src Dst 4 5 00 0054 028b 0 0000 fd 01 c4fb 203.93.18.120 152.75.128.1 ^C --- ibb1.IBB.GOV ping statistics --- 5 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss ================================================================ Because VOA's web site is prohibited by the government of China, it is almost impossible to access it unless using a proxy server. I will not discuss politics and democracy here. I want someone to account for the meaning of these 'Vr HL TOS Len ID Flg off TTL Pro cks' since there is few clues in the man page of ping. I also want to know how my ISP implement this trick. Peihan Wang To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
