Fix a race that causes crashes in smbfs that destroyed mutexes prematurely

This patch seems to have fixed a similar problem w.r.t.
smbfs crashes for someone who reported the problem to a
mailing list. I believe it fixes the problem.
It will be committed in a few weeks if nothing is reported
to indicate that it doesn't fix the problem.
