Documenting procedure is a good thing, no matter how common sense it may
seem to you. Remember you've been working on FreeBSD much longer than a
vast majority of the committers. I work in an environment where *nothing*
is documented. I can't tell you how many times I've screwed things up.

But back to the matter at hand. I think that the handling of this
situation was about as fscked up as it can get. Jonathen should have sent
a HEADS UP! to the relavent lists. Yes. But I would also contend that
Jordan shouldn't have condemned him in a public forum (Praise in public,
condemn in private). It only hurts feelings when you say you are going to
file a formal complaint (or some such thing) against a person. Did I
really need to know that? No. The only other person (outside of core) that
needed to know might have been Darren, just so he could get some reason as
to why it all happened and how the situation should have been handled.
This whole thing should have dropped the public lists early on and been a
discussion between darrenr, jlemon, and core.

When <name withheld> broke -stable consistently a while back, that was
handled with class. In a nice, off-line discussion that a vast majority
didn't know about. Heck, the only reason I know is that I actually pay
attention to the administrative bits of the repo. This situation should
have been handled like that.

BTW, core, if you are still looking for someone as your secretary. I'd be
up for the job.

Okay, flame away =)
