Unfortunately it looks like there is another problem. I fixed a bug about a year ago relating to mounting filesystems over /, but it looks as if the bugfix got accidentally reverted by a subsequent commit a few months later. This bug results in a "vrele: negative ref count" panic if you unmount the filesystem or reboot.
