Ignore the following lines in the dmesg:

GEOM: da0: the secondary GPT table is corrupt or invalid.
GEOM: da0: using the primary only -- recovery suggested.
GEOM: diskid/DISK-4C530006820119118005: the secondary GPT table is corrupt =
or
invalid.
GEOM: diskid/DISK-4C530006820119118005: using the primary only -- recovery

That was just an attached USB stick where I hadn't wiped the GPT correctly.=

The device isn't involved in the boot process in any way.  Booting with that
stick removed yields the same behavior for both boot environments.
