This is an answer. I hope somebody knows the question to it :-)
I am running FreeBSD 4.3beta2 .
When I installed gnome/sawfish via
# /stand/sysinstall
and tried to
# startx
these files were missing
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXpm.so.4
/libgdk_imlib.so.5
/libImlib.so.5
I copied them from my 4.2 Release into their respective places and
everything went well.
