You install it and it works. You don't get any fancy menus or stuff, but it shows you a list of partitions and you choose one to boot. I wouldn't put it on my Mom's computer, because it won't tell you which partition is the boot partition. But configuring it takes zero effort. Alternately, LILO does a fine job of booting FreeBSD.
