Manipulating the loader disk variable currdev does nothing and changing lodadev is not permitted. Which doesn't matter since the loader still can't traverse the filesystem. I would like to request that this issue be escalated to critical and added to the 12.0 errata. Since STABLE is supposedly fixed, it should be possible to identify the exact code that causes this.
