ummm, well, a daemon is a daemon because it works invisibly -- ie. not connected to a terminal -- "The ghost within the machine". This has nothing to do with goodness, badness, or indifference.

The BSD mascot is (and has, judging by a previous correspondent on this list) only likely to play havoc with the sensitivities of extremist Christians. Which only goes to show that even the cuddliest of images will upset someone, and that evil is in the eye of the beholder....
