hi, SYSCTL(8) has got the answer for you in FreeBSD. whichever parameter you tweak just remember to put them in /boot/loader.conf for activation at next boot. btw don't compare linux w/ BSD.. ever heard of http://www.linuxisforbitches.com/ ;) take a look and get a life.
