Interesting, I've had almost the opposite experience. I have the T61p with the NVIDIA Quadro card. If I run a game, the video card becomes almost too hot to have on my lap rather quickly (I just put it on a magazine or something and it's fine), but if it's idle the temperature is totally comfortable on my lap. It also takes only about 5 minutes to cool off. The fan is almost silent. Perhaps they fixed the issues you describe with the revision?
