I've volountered to put in an ATAPI cmd passthrough ioctl for a long time,
but nobody has signed up to do the stuff in cdrecord, although it should
be fairly easy. 

However its not needed, and in 4.0 there is even better support for
burning CD-R/RW (man burncd)..
