Considering that we are talking about a checked in mtree file, it would
be a lot simpler to have a tool convert it to a shellscript and run that
from /etc/rc.*

Either way, my patch is clearly not way out of line and will not be
committed and I doubt I will ever get it reworked, but I still urge
the RC-team to keep 'single read-only filesystem' configs in mind,
we have a lot of the code in the diskless case, it should just be
available also for people booting CF-cards in embedded boxes, CDroms
with "live systems" etc.
