Yes, this discussion is about mirroring and that is only applicable to FreeBSD (as is GEOM, itself), but a full disk geom will use the last block in the disk and GPT does not allow this. If a disk is geomified for any reason and is a dual-boot disk (and I'll admit I can't think of any case where this would make be done today), the compatibility of GEOM and GPT will lead to problems that will get increasingly serious as time passes. It just seems like a very bad idea to play fast and loose with an industry standard like this. It comes back to bite you in the butt all too often. -- R.
