See: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/adding-swap-space.html In particular, you could create a swapfile on /, without changing the partition. That would be a short-term fix; long-term, you'd want to partition your drives such that you have sufficient raw swap space.
