We've successfully used dump/restore in this situation. I suspect that dd is faster, tho. In single user: dump 0fB - 10000000 / | (cd /newdisk; restore -rf -) Check the man pages. 10000000 is an arbitrarily large number to make sure that all blocks of the disk in question are read.
