I have run into the same problem; the problem seems to be that "/usr/bin/tr" does not accept source files that conflict with the current locale (zh_TW.UTF-8 in my case). Running "make" with "env LC_ALL=C" fixed it for me. Port maintainers: do you think adding "MAKE_ENV+= LC_ALL=C" make sense, or is there some way to fix the "tr" lines only? (I'm not on the list, so please Cc me for follow-up discussions.)
