I should have tried this earlier: When using Windows instead of Linux on the other host I don't have any problems. I'm getting a constant transfer rate of over 500Mbit/s without a single frame missed on the freebsd-machine. So maybe this problem is more related to the ATL1E driver in the linux kernel.
