Another, important feature:
Allow for templates. Example;
At Atlas, we build two types of FreeBSD configurations:
- A server, which has not GUI, a particular kernel configuration,
particular disk layout and partitioning, particular networking options,
and a particular ports mix.
- A Workstation which uses a different kernel configuration, different disk
layout, different ports mix, differnt netwoking options, etc.
Currently, the system builder must know and understand the differences, and
follow a paper guide as to which has what. since the builders are both
human and not hackers, they make occasional maistakes.
If we could, easily create a ``configuration'' that includes a kernel,
fdisk data, disklabel data, fstab data, internet data, etc. and if the
installer software could allow me to install ``Authentication Server'' vs.
``GUI Workstation'' vs. ``Standard BSd Workstation'', etc. It would be
very helpful.
The key here is the ability to create:
a. Configuration template which contains answers to all the current
questions.
b. Multiple boot floppies, one per configuration
c. All of these without tearing into the Makefiles for the release.
