Yes indeed. I hadn't read ``To update from 4.0-RELEASE or later to the most current 4.x-STABLE'' in /usr/src/UPDATING. This time I tried to follow these instuctions. Thus I did make installworld and mergemaster in single user mode. I hadn't run mergemaster before. Now it works.
