Not to sound like a broken record, but isn't 5.3 a good time to flip the default on this to use packet mode boot and make the option "-o ancient_bios" (or something similar). There are few systems that will ever run V5 that don't support packet booting today and the frequency of this being reported is going higher and higher as big disks become more common.
