I have a D-Link between my FreeBSD gateway/firewall and my DSL modem. I don't think it matters there. I tested a few NICs a while back and Intel 100+'s gave me typically 2 MB/s or more over 3Com905?'s. Neither sell the version I have installed. They have all been upgraded (?).
