I originally didn't want to update my system before the code freeze for 8.2, but this sounded promising, so I just did it this afternoon. I have suspended and resumed the system from X11 a few times now, and it seems like it works reliably and without any problems now. (Now I also see the switch to ttyv0 before the system is suspended.) Great improvement for my desktop system - thanks to everyone working on it!
