Ah yes, I meant to follow up on this...

I too gave up on mine.  The patches I got from you made it get at least a
little further...  it found the first memory block, the IO space, and an
IRQ, then locked the machine up *hard* trying to attach the device.  It
made it as far as the last ioctl call in cardd.c, which never returned. 
I'm trying to remember if I ever made it panic, or just freeze.  I think
freezing only. 

I gave up and (still being a cheapskate) bought a Linksys card, which
worked perfectly almost immediately.  (I couldn't quite afford a 3com card
at the time.) 

Anyone who has more time to hack on these things want my card?  It's way
too late for me to return mine to the store I bought it from -- it's been
years.  It wasn't much fun to get going under DOS or Win95 either, but it
can at least be done there.  It's rumored to work on Linux, though I
haven't actually tried...
