Weird..

This is expected behavior.  There is a reason for the wrapper file which
sets up the environment for the executable.

Is the environment variable DISPLAY set, and if so is X installed?

Can you do


% sh -x /usr/local/jdk1.1.5/bin/javac Text.java

And send the output.
