Standard GENERIC kernel only has sio0 and sio1 enabled so cuaa2 is bound to fail. cuaaX and sioX are connected to each other, so hence it fails. (some better UNIX learned peeps might want to enlighten me on that one, afaik it's the call out port) See the Pedantic PPP Primer on the tutorials page for details.
