Because recent changes to mount(1) to make it more userfriendly are
still being given time to mature in the development version of FreeBSD.
Be patient and I'm sure it'll be backported to STABLE at some point
before the next 3.x release.

In the meantime, it sounds like you know how to work around the
problem.
