It turns out that I already had the most recent commit to usr.bin/grep, so merely 2) cd /usr/src/usr.bin/grep 3) make clean all install was apparently sufficient for the build to succeed: FreeBSD freebeast.catwhisker.org 9.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 9.0-CURRENT #223 r210495: Mon Jul 26 10:05:15 PDT 2010 root@freebeast.catwhisker.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386 I don't know if this is likely to bite enough folks htat updating UPDATING is warranted.
