On or about Fri, Jul 26, 2002 at 17:38 , while attempting a Zarathustra emulation Jason Woyak thus spake: > I work at a mid-sized ISP, and we've been having a problem > where if mail is queued to send to a server that isnt online > (or at least, isnt accepting mail), it sits and waits a long > time (several minutes) for the mail message to time out, all > the while /var/spool/mqueue is filling up (got up to ~5000 > messages this time).. is there some sort of setting i can make > so sendmail doesnt die? i've looked around about this but had > no luck.. its an older freebsd machine (this particular one > is 3.4-stable) running sendmail 8.10.1. any help is mucho > appreciated.. thanks I remember seeing slowness on older machines - and part was the ident timeout. All around mail performance improved when I went to a 4.x platform and sendmail in the 8.11 series. I'd suggest an OS and sendmail upgrade. I hated to do that to my old machine with an uptime of over 500 days - but it had to be done.
