498 should not be a problem on 2.2.6-RELEASE (except it was broken after
2.2.1) ...

$ uname -v
FreeBSD 2.2.1-RELEASE (CHDKERNEL) #0: Mon Jun 23 16:49:02 CEST 1997
$ uptime
10:34PM  up 661 days,  1:59, 2 users, load averages: 0.08, 0.10, 0.08
