Sorry about the state of that version of the sound driver. 

The sound driver is rather difficult to maintain due to its support
for many different cards. That version was enhanced to support the 
gus pnp which is the card which I own right . My gus max broke 
several months . 

The near term future is that we are waiting for a release from
Hannu Savolainen when this happens the sound problems for non
gus pnp should be alleviated.
