Just to follow up... I was being lame. Cron's were running, just not notifying me. I failed to disable sendmail in /etc/make.conf. The installworld process dutifully wrote over my symlink, /usr/sbin/sendmail, which was pointing to /var/qmail/bin/sendmail. Since the periodic entries attempt to use sendmail to deliver the results of the cron, they failed. I put the symlink back and everything is cool again.
