Seeking hardware advice, on which brand IDE drives are recomended to =
work at ATA100.

Problem :=20

 ad0: 29319MB <FUJITSU MPG3307AT> [59570/16/63] at ata0-master UDMA66=20
Waiting 15 seconds for SCSI devices to settle=20
 Mounting root from ufs:/dev/da0s1a
 da0 at sym0 bus 0 target 0 lun 0
 da0: <IBM DGHS09V 03E0> Fixed Direct Access SCSI-3 device=20
 da0: 40.000MB/s transfers (20.000MHz, offset 15, 16bit), Tagged =
Queueing Enabled
 da0: 8748MB (17916240 512 byte sectors: 255H 63S/T 1115C)
ad0: UDMA ICRC WRITE ERROR blk# 2111 retrying
ad0: UDMA ICRC WRITE ERROR blk# 2111 retrying
ad0: UDMA ICRC WRITE ERROR blk# 2111 retrying
ad0: UDMA ICRC WRITE ERROR blk# 2111 falling back to PIO mode

Hardware :

Gigabyte 7ZX Rev 5 (ATA100 compliant)
AMD Athlon 800
Tekram 390F
IBM 9.1Gb SCSI-3 Drive
Fujitsu 30Gb Hard Drive

The Fujitsu IDE drive is new, just added (and still empty) and therefore =
right now it would be painless to remove and replace with a drive that =
will not give those ICRC WRITE ERROR's.

There are many posts in the mailing list archives about these and =
related issues but everyone falls short of recommending a drive or even =
sharing their experience about a drive that does work to full potential. =
If anyone has a drive working at ATA66 or even better ATA100 please let =
me know which brand.

Or am I barking up the wrong tree? Is the issue the VIA IDE controller =
and therefore I'm stuck with it?=20

Thanking anyone in advance for taking the trouble to reply.

Kulraj Gurm
