That was the trick - thank you.  I thought I had removed it already.

Incidentally (this is a question for the list), should the video capture
portion of the 8500DV work with the gatos.sf.net drivers?  XFree86 seems
to see all the parts, according to the logs, but I have yet to find an
application that will pull from that instead of my bktr card.
