If we were talking about ports, the solution would be OSVERSION!= sysctl -n kern.osreldate .if ${OSVERSION} >= 300000 SGMLOPTS+=-e EUC-JP .endif but this obviously will not work if the on-line handbook is built on a hacked-up -stable machine (like, say, "hub" or "freefall" ;).
