If you just want a normal Sync PPP or raw HDLC (Cisco mode) connection
FreeBSD 2.2 and -current supports the SDL RISCom/N2 ISA and PCI cards.
The man page is sr(4) and there is examples in LINT, although the man
page doesn't mention the PCI driver I see. Seems I forgot to update
that. :-(
