One way for doing secure (against external attackers, anyway) is to
use IPsec. There is/was an IPsec implementation from WIDE for FreeBSD,
and my code from OpenBSD should be trivial to port. In fact, we might
make a port to FreeBSD during the summer (unfortunately, that would be
available only to US citizens).
