It looks to me (yes I have spent some time looking too 8-) that kaffe would be an easy base to work from/with. It's vm is structured as a library. My stumbling block is Motif. I won't buy from Xig because they penalize me for not being american. They want to charge me US$40 more for the same english language product. Then they said I could buy the domestic one because I wanted an english version. Then they declined to accept the order.
