The version with 3.0 complains that it can't understand the format of an a.out image. If you create a short C program, a la #include <stdio.h> void main(void) { printf("Hi!\n"); } and compile it a la: cc -aout -g -o foo foo.c Then go: gdb foo It will load gdb, then complain that the format is unrecognized.... As a "work around", I recompiled a copy from my 2.2.6 machine with -static defined, and copied it over.
