Oh, so you mean you want to put it in /etc/make.conf because that's where people will look for build stuff and can't be bothered to read the fetch manpage? Ok, then please put in a comment there telling them to set FTP_PASSIVE_MODE in their environment or /etc/login.conf. That way we can have the best of both worlds. I do not agree that we should add a kludge to bsd.port.mk so setting FTP_PASSIVE_MODE in /etc/make.conf would make it only if you are using ports.
