I've experienced this problem only while running
XFree86 (latest) under FreeBSD.  The screen will
randomly (seemingly) flicker on and off.

The settings are correct, etc.  

The card is a Matrox Millennium II.  Dell Ultrascan
monitor.  Nothing spectacular.
